Common screw piling questions
What are screw piles?
Steel shafts with welded helical plates that screw into the ground to form a deep foundation. Also called helical piles or helical piers. Engineered to AS2159.
How are they installed?
Rotated into the ground with a drive motor mounted on an excavator. The helical plates pull the pile down to the load-bearing depth specified by the engineer. No excavation, no curing, immediate load capability.
Why screw piles instead of concrete or bored piers?
Faster install (often hours not days), no curing time, minimal excavation and spoil, removable and reusable, works in most soil types, and lower environmental impact. Ideal for tight-access and reactive clay sites.
How long do they last?
50+ years when properly designed and installed.
Do you do new builds and renovations?
Both. Screw piles work for new construction, retrofit projects, and foundation repairs (underpinning).
What weight can a residential screw pile carry?
Standard residential screw piles typically support 2,000 to 10,000+ kg each, depending on size and soil conditions.
